7 Tips to Help You Reach Your 2016 Goals!

A lot of people begin the New Year by making resolutions. We’ve all been there. We take a vow to lose weight, eat healthier, exercise on regular basis, or spend more time with our family. We start the year with great intentions, but then we quickly relapse into old habits.  Can you relate to this? Why is it so hard to stick to those New Year’s resolutions?

Here are some ways you can make your intentions a reality this year:

  1. Write down your goals and intentions. Get clear on what you want and why!
  2. Keep them in a visible place, like taped to your bedroom mirror, add them to your daily planner, or create a vision board.
  3. Get to the source of whatever is keeping you in a rut. Are you in a stressful relationship that causes you to eat a pint of Ben & Jerry’s every night? Are you stressed at your job and feel too tired to exercise after work?  If you don’t tackle the root of the behavior, it will be much harder to accomplish your goal. Always ask WHY you do or don’t do something!
  4. See yourself there!  Can you describe a day in your life when you’re 20 pounds lighter, you exercise daily (it’s fun doing it), and choosing healthy foods has become second nature? Is that picture clear in your mind’s eyes?  Be crystal clear about what your life would look like once you achieve your goal. Get connected to the result of your action, and you will be more likely to stick with your plan. Create a vision board.
  5. Share your goals and intentions, with friends and family. Hold each other accountable for achieving your goals.
  6. Find a coach, enroll in a long term coaching program, and get the support you need to reach your goals.
  7. Celebrate yourself! Have a weekly check of your goals and reward yourself for any big or small accomplishment that takes you one step closer to your long term goal. If your intention is to lose weight and you lose 1 pound a week, reward yourself with a massage .

The New You!

Big changes do not require big leaps. Permanent change is more likely to happen gradually than through one big restrictive plan. Allow yourself this year to take the wellness journey one small step at a time.
